Week One Reflection

I am super excited to get started with the UHP Student Leader Roundtable.  Throughout this experience I hope to learn a lot about myself as a leader and how I can bring in my style to a group of others that may have different styles. Additionally, I am excited to meet a new group of peers from various different majors and campus organizations that I can hopefully work with in the future!

Week Two Reflection

I learned a lot about myself and others after taking the Conflict Styles Quiz and working with the group to look at scenarios relating to conflict. I tend to be pretty avoidant,  but even as this semester has gone on I have grown and done what I can to be attentive and have important conversations to best handle and alleviate conflict. I plan to use the information I learned about all of the different conflict styles in the different organizations that I am in to learn how to best handle all kinds of people who have all kind of different conflict styles!

Week Three Reflection

This week we focused on both emotional intelligence and how to have engaging meetings! When it came to emotional intelligence, I seemed to be in the middle with my results, as a lot of the prompts were situational and in anytime I can react in a different way. However, learning this has helped me to realize that it is important to give others grace when working in a organizational setting as they too could have situational reactions. When it comes to holding an engaging meeting, one of my favorite tips learned is to just continue with icebreakers even after the first meeting to allow for relationships to be built, which helps to increase engagement. I cannot wait to put these things into practice in my organizations and personal relationships and see how they help!

Week Four Reflection

This week we focused on both our DISC Personalities and Membership Recruitment/Retention. After taking the DISC assessment, my results said that I was "The Counselor". This relates to being empathetic and always seeking to help others. I definitely see this as a lot of my personality, however after working with the entire group I definitely believe that I have traits of all of the different personality types and it really depends on the situation for how I will react.

The membership recruitment/retention presentation taught me a lot of fun strategies that seem so easy but I never thought of myself. My favorite one was collaborating with other like organizations to further the pool of people that know about your organization!

Week Five Reflection

Effective leadership can come from anyone of any communication style. After looking at my communication style and learning from my peers, it is evident that in different groups it is okay for the leaders to all have different leadership and communication styles. However, it is important for the overlapping strengths of all of these styles come together to add for a strong relationship amongst groups.

Week Six Reflection

A leader being resilient is one of the most important things a leader can be to ensure greatness amongst both themselves interpersonally as well as for their organization. A lot of time and work is required to become fully resilient, but learning this skill can create a great environment in all organizations.

Additionally, learning about burnout and how it can affect college students was very beneficial as we were given tips on how to do and feel better in this sense.
